Event info

According to Wikipedia, the album was available only at the website niggytardust.com until a physical CD of the album was issued. The physical release included new tracks and extended album artwork. The first 100,000 customers on the website had the option to download a free lower-quality audio version of the album. The other option was for users to pay $5 to support the artist directly and be given the choice of downloading the higher-quality MP3 version or the lossless FLAC version.

Strictly speaking, this is not a free payment experiment since consumers could not chose its own price and since the higher quality product was not free.

Data

Number of people who chose to download Saul's new record 154,449
Number of people who chose to pay $5 for it 28,322

Analysis

FPCF = 18.3%

FPCF value is probably boosted by the fact that paying customers were allowed to download a higher quality product. On the other hand, the fact that custumers could not chose its own price may have chilled some.
